Before we will process your reverse mortgage, you must first meet with an independent counselor overseen by HUD. You will learn more about:
  • Program eligibility requirements
  • Financial implications
  • Alternatives to reverse mortgages
  • Tax consequences and provisions for the mortgage becoming due and payable

  • Lenders may make donations and obtain a sponsor number. If the borrower calls with a sponsor number, counselors are available 24 hours a day. Call the toll free number to learn more.

AARP

  • The AARP counseling Web site is at: http://www.hecmresources.org. At this website, choose the "USA Map" option to search counselor availability by state.
  • The toll free number is: 800-209-8085 (local 202-434-6082)
  • Borrowers facing forclosure, or other similar emergencies, may call: 202-434-6051
  • Counselors are available from Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 12:00 am (midnight) EST.

National Foundation for Credit Counseling

  • Counselors are available from 7:30 am to 8:00 pm EST Monday through Thursday and on Fridays from 9:00am to 6:00pm EST.
